Frequently Asked Questions
“How do I know if maternal mental health therapy is right for me?”
If you’re feeling anxious, sad, overwhelmed, or not like yourself during pregnancy or postpartum, therapy can help. You don’t need a formal diagnosis or a crisis to reach out—if it feels hard, that’s reason enough.
“Is it normal to feel this way after having a baby?”
Yes. Many new moms experience postpartum depression, anxiety, or emotional numbness—even if they’re doing all the “right” things. These feelings are more common than you might think, and they’re treatable with the right support.
“What kinds of therapy do you use?”
I tailor therapy to each person, drawing from approaches like EMDR, CBT, ACT, and mindfulness. My goal is to help you feel safe, heard, and supported—whether you’re healing from trauma or navigating everyday stress.
“Do I have to talk about my birth experience or loss right away?”
No. You get to decide what we talk about and when. If or when you’re ready, we can explore those experiences together in a gentle, trauma-informed way.
“Is online therapy effective for maternal mental health?”
Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for women across Seattle and Washington. Virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person care—and often more accessible for busy moms.
“Can therapy help with NICU trauma?”
Absolutely. NICU experiences can be deeply traumatic and leave lasting emotional impacts. Therapy can help you process what happened, manage lingering anxiety, and move toward healing at your own pace.
“What if I have intrusive thoughts?”
Intrusive thoughts are a common—and frightening—symptom of postpartum anxiety and OCD. You’re not a bad mom, and you’re not alone. Therapy can help you understand these thoughts and reduce their impact safely and compassionately.
“How do I know if what I’m feeling is postpartum depression?”
Postpartum depression can show up as sadness, irritability, fatigue, guilt, or feeling numb or disconnected from your baby. If your emotional experience doesn’t match what you expected, that’s a sign it’s time to reach out.
My Story
Working with women who have a challenging start into their motherhood journey is a passion of mine.
My own mothering journey began when a rescue helicopter flight and subsequent 12-day NICU stay saved my newborn son’s life. Months of lactation challenges and years of medical challenges followed.
My own motherhood journey has been often turbulent, sometimes terrifying, often gratifying, and even exhilarating, but always one of the most meaningful parts of my life.
Because I’ve walked through early mothering challenges myself, I’m deeply committed to helping other moms navigate this time with support and compassion.
I want to provide you with the space and support you deserve to hear your labor and delivery story, provide screening and treatment for Postpartum Depression or related Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
I would love to bring you caring support, competent treatment and any referrals for additional support you might need.
Next Steps in Your Therapy Journey
Reaching out for support can feel vulnerable—but it’s also a sign of strength. If you’re considering maternal mental health therapy, I invite you to take the next step when you’re ready. Whether you’re feeling stuck in postpartum depression, working through grief or trauma, or just need a space to exhale, therapy can help you come back to yourself.
I’m here to listen, guide, and support you with compassion and clinical care. You don’t have to do this alone.
